What are LDCs ?

What do Local Dental Committees do?

The LDC system was first set up in 1948, later becoming Statutory bodies under the 1977 NHS Act.

PCTs have to consult with the LDC on matters of local dental interest.

LDCs represent any dentist who holds an NHS list number with the PCT.

The members of the LDC are elected to represent the interests of local dentists professionally and pastorally if problems arise in their lives.

LDCS are focused on providing up to date advice and guidance on matters effecting the dentists.

The LDC liaises with the Professional Executive Committees (PECs) of PCTs, Oral Health Advisory group
· Clinical Governance within the PCTs, Patient representative groups.

The LDC can assist with Dental discipline committee issues ensuring the dentist involved is supported, providing members for DPB appeals or advising PCTs over complaints against dentists ensuring the dentists interests are represented positively.
